Bobo's on 9th is pleased to present the latest works by Jesse A. Greenberg, in his first solo show. Featuring the latest installments to Greenberg's signature ongoing project; MegaBinx, along with new works, in sculpture, painting, collage and digital compositions. Using "body responsive geometry", tactile synthetic materials, colorful hidden lighting, and soft cushioned textiles, Greenberg creates an environment that's not only visually compelling, but invites the viewer to participate in the space to the point of physical contact. "MegaBinx is art you want to touch, and you can," claims the artist. Small handheld sized items called "Touchables" are seductively placed in larger human scaled sculptures. "Invitational Booths" are garnished in the most ornate way, almost demanding the viewer to come right in and embrace the pieces, receiving a very distinct pleasant satisfaction. "Touchables:" items of familiar materials, unfamiliar forms and obscure distinction with no apparent purpose but vaguely comfortable familiarities hinting towards reason. Each item from piles of hundreds are unique to their own color, texture, material, and shape. Each "Touchable" is a story on the tip of your tongue with just enough information left out to leave you searching for explanation, leaving the viewer to discover or relate to their own experiences. MegaBinx is an environment rather than an installation and exploratory rather than interactive. MegaBinx is a reference free environment, and a transferable metaphysical embodiment of virtually any familiar place. MegaBinx's have shown in New Orleans Contemprary Art Center Biennial, and various other museums and galleries in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Providence, and Philadelphia.
Apart from MegaBinx, a new line of paintings, collages and digital compositions rarely shown by the artist will be exhibited in conjunction with the installation. These image-based works are generally abstract reaching to the likes of expressionistic properties placed in a science fiction/futuristic context. Like MegaBinx, rarely presenting anything familiar or recognizable, these works are built on spectral color theories, geometric absolutes, and the embracement of forms and shapes left with a rough edge.
Please stop by for a thematic plastic interaction of sight, sound, touch, and mind.
